Adult Outreach Education website was archived in a toolkit in June 2005. The toolkit aims to be a source of knowledge, resources, and information on Literacy and Non Formal Education for Adults and Youth. The information on this toolkit is provided in order to assist task teams, and their clients, namely policy makers, program planners, and development practitioners engaged with the design and implementation of effective Literacy and Non Formal Education programs. It also aims to develop a community of practice in areas related to Non Formal Education.
The toolkit is divided into five main sections. First section gives an overview of non formal education and literacy. Second section describes the reasons for investing in adult education. It also reveals direct and indirect impact that adult education has on social development, empowerment, health, and HIV/AIDS. Third section describes policies and strategies for designing and implementing literacy and non formal education programs for adults and youth. Fourth section outlines various components required to design and implement an Adult Literacy and Non Formal Education program. It also includes Good Practice Examples of World Bank assisted projects as well as projects implemented by other organizations. The last section provides useful links and resources by world region.
