Global Development Learning Network (GDLN)

GDLN is a global partnership of learning centers that use advanced information and communication technologies to connect people around the world working in development.  Initiated by the World Bank in June 2000, the Network has grown from 11 to over 70 Affiliates, most in developing countries.

Global Networked Readiness for Education Project – The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School and the World Bank Institute

This project is the first global study offering multi-country analysis and data on ICTs used in schools in eleven participating countries.  The project collected data from 5000 students, teachers, heads-of-schools and computer lab supervisors about their experiences using computers and the Internet in rural and urban areas around the world.  The site offers policymakers, researchers and other interested users on-line interactive toolkits that can help in the planning and implementation process of incorporating ICTs into educational settings.

International Centre for Distance Learning (ICDL) of the Open University, UK

The ICDL literature database contains bibliographic information on over 12,000 books, journal articles, research reports, conference papers, dissertations and other types of literature relating to all aspects of the theory and practice of distance education.  ICDL also has an extensive database of UK courses and programs taught by distance learning.

South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE)

SAIDE was formed as an educational trust in July 1992. Its explicit brief is to assist in the reconstruction of education and training in South Africa. It promotes open learning principles, the use of quality distance education methods and the appropriate use of technology. SAIDE works closely with policy makers and providers of educational programs to translate these approaches into practice.

United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
UNESCO is giving a high priority to the use of ICTs for more equitable and pluralistic development in education, aiming to (i) expand the knowledge base about the issues, both within the Organization and worldwide, (ii) work with partners and Member States to establish principles and guidance for good practice, (iii) give policy advice, and where appropriate (iv) engage in specific development cooperation.
