What region constitutes the largest amount of lending in the education sector for FY 05?
Regional Education Lending Breakdown Education lending varied widely among regions in FY 05 with the largest amount of education lending occurring in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region (LAC) totaling $680 million in new education lending in FY 05. Lending for the Africa (AFR) region totaled $369 million constituting the second largest region in terms of total amount of education lending in FY 05. In terms of the number of education projects, the largest number of new education projects in FY 05 was in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region which held 24% of all new education projects. The Africa region held 19% of total new education projects in FY 05. What education sub-sector receives the most lending?
The World Bank continues to support Basic Education through various activities and lending. As in past years, primary education represent the largest percentage of World Bank education lending, constituting 29% of total education lending in FY 05. Below is an overview of past education lending trends broken down by education sub-sector. Note that the General Education sub-sector, representing about 26% of total education lending is a project categorization used when a project supports more than five sectors or when no sub-sector is appropriate for coding.
