Goal & Objectives

The symposium “Education: A Critical Path to Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment”  aims to re-energize the debate on gender equality in education and accelerate the collective global response to the persistent and emerging challenges that act as a brake on greater equality and empowerment of women. Specifically, the objectives are:

1. Take stock of the progress made and lessons learned after nearly two decades of promotion of gender equality in education. 
2. Discuss the nature and impact of challenges that blunt progress on achieving the goal of gender equality and empowerment of women. 
3. Explore ways of maintaining the focus on and accelerating the achievement of gender equality in education within the evolving development aid context. 
4. Agree on priority areas for future support, including strategic and operational approaches for addressing them, while highlighting innovative practices that have worked in improving gender equality in education.
