The World Bank’s Human Development Network (Education) and the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network (Gender) are organizing a global symposium entitled “Education: A Critical Path to Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment”.
Persuasive evidence demonstrates that gender equality in education is central to economic development. Despite more than two decades of accumulated knowledge and evidence of what works in improving gender equality, progress on the ground remains slow and uneven across countries. What is missing? What is holding us back?
The symposium will bring together a cross-section of senior policy makers, Government representatives, global experts and leaders from the international community and the private sector for re-energizing the discourse on gender, education and development.
The symposium will take place on October 2 – 3, 2007 in Washington DC.
