The output is a book titled "Courage and Hope: Stories from Teachers Living with HIV and AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa" that has been turned into a documentary film produced by Partnership for Child Development with support by the World Bank. The World's Youth, Their Future and Development Half of the world's population is 25 or younger and most live in developing countries. Supporting these young people in their successful transition into productive and engaged adulthood can have a big impact on the countries' progress and growth. G. Ferreira and Norbert Schady This paper uses a simple framework to analyze the effects of aggregate economic shocks on child schooling and health. It shows that the expected effects are ambiguous, because of a tension between income and substitution effects. The paper then reviews the recent empirical literature on the subject. A Positive Stigma for Child Labor? By Harry Anthony Patrinos and M. Najeeb Shafiq The authors introduce a simple empirical model that assumes a positive stigma, or norm, toward child labor that is common in some developing countries. They illustrate the positive stigma model using data from Guatemala. Controlling for several child and household level characteristics, the analysis uses two instruments for measuring stigma: a child's indigenous background and the household head's childhood work experience University Admission Worldwide By Robin Matross Helms The purpose of this paper is to examine, compare, and contrast undergraduate university admission policies and procedures worldwide. It sets forth a basic classification system for university admission systems, and brings attention to some of the key considerations and challenges associated with the various models currently in use.
