World Bank Main Complex MC4 - 800 | The Cognitive Process That Underlies Learning Presenter: Roger Schank, CEO, Socratic Arts Roger Schank is one of the world's leading visionaries in artificial intelligence, learning theory, cognitive science, and the building of virtual learning environments. He is CEO of Socratic Arts, a company whose goal is to design and implement learning-by-doing, story-centered curricula in schools, universities, and corporations. He was formerly a professor of computer science and psychology at Yale University and director of the Yale Artificial Intelligence Project. In 1989 he was hired by Northwestern University to found the Institute of Learning Sciences. In 2001 he was hired as Chief Education Officer of Carnegie Mellon's new Silicon Valley campus where he created a new entirely project-based master's degree program meant to emulate real world work situations delivered on line or face to face. In 2005, Schank was appointed chief learning officer of Donald Trump's Trump University. He founded Engines for Education, a not-for-profit organization which hosts the Virtual International Science and Technology Academy (VISTA) which will offer learning by doing high school curricula in September 2010. In 2008 he began working with La Salle University in Barcelona, Spain to design and build an experiential MBA program that will be delivered worldwide starting in the spring of 2010.
