Length of Studies and Instructional Time


This module presents ten tables from the article Primary Education: Length of Studies and Instructional Time¬†published in the Education Innovation and Information (September 1997) by the UNESCO’s International Bureau of Education (IBE). It concerns the issue of the duration of the basic or primary education cycle and the amount of instructional time at this educational level.

The data was processed in the following manner. The IBE prepared the profile of the education system in each country, using a common structure and referring to the data contained in both the national reports and in other sources of information. The profiles were then sent to the country in question in order to verify the relevance of the data contained in them and sometimes to obtain further information. Finally, these profiles, accompanied by a set of recapitulative and comparative tables on relevant aspects of the education system were made available to the international community.
