The World Bank/IFC Global Capital Markets Development Department helps countries deepen their securities markets and make them more transparent and accessible to investors. It also helps countries develop crucial non-bank financial institutions such as insurance, housing, leasing and contractual savings.
The department focuses on three main areas: - Securities Market Development. The Securities Market Development Group provides technical assistance to governments, market infrastructure providers and market participants in order support development of local securities markets (debt, equity and derivatives)

ESMID (Efficient Securities Markets Institutional Development Initiative) - Non-Bank Financial Institutions. The Non-Bank Financial Institutions group supports the growth of comprehensive financial systems by developing pensions, insurance, housing finance and other markets supportive of economic growth and poverty reduction. This work involves increasing household and small business access to key non-bank financial products, and in developing countries can be a central element in the provision of social safety nets.

- Corporate Governance. The World Bank Corporate Governance Group helps client countries assess their corporate governance institutional frameworks and practices. The Group is the official assessor of the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance. It also assesses the corporate governance of state-owned enterprises and of country financial sectors.
In addition, GCM is an active global thought leader and advances knowledge in capital market development through conferences, workshops, toolkits, books and papers. |
