Our policy development work is gaining importance for its impact on TA deliveries, as well as enhancing the World Bank’s influence on changes in policy emphasis at the global level. The World Bank’s renewed focus on governance and anti-corruption has also resulted in greater synergies in the work of FPDFI with other units of the World Bank, including Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network (PREM), Department of Institutional Integrity (INT), World Bank Institute (WBI), and Development Economics (DEC).
Â
A major part of our policy development work is the Bilateral Remittance Corrdidor Analysis (BRCA) initiative.  An important objective of the BRCA is to develop a better understanding of the incentives and other factors that shape the remittance markets in sender and recipient countries in order to promote effective policies for inducing that shift.
Â
A new initiative of FPDFI’s policy development work is on the Stolen Asset Recovery (StAR).  We have worked closely with senior management and other World Bank units, in particular the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network (PREM), in the creation, launch and proposed implementation of the StAR Initiative, including the policy paper, “Stolen Asset Recovery (StAR) Initiative; Challenges, Opportunities and Action Plan."  StAR, which is being jointly launched with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), seeks to help World Bank Group country members recover assets stolen by corrupt officials.
