Workshop:   The Development Implications of Gender-Based Violence

Tuesday Nov. 9, 2004.  World Bank, Washington D.C., MC2-800

The PREM Gender and Development Group and the Gender and Development Board are teaming with the Legal Department, DEC, HD, SDV, Conflict Prevention, MENA, LAC and ECA to raise awareness among Bank staff about the prevalence and development implications of gender-based violence, a phenomenon that is found in every country of the world and which reflects women's subordinate status in society.

The goal of the workshop, which was opened by Mr. Wolfensohn and brought staff together with external experts, was to examine the development implications of violence against women and explore how the World Bank can address this critical issue in its operational work.
