The three-day workshop was jointly sponsored by the Gender and Development Group, World Bank, and the Gender Entrepreneurship Markets Unit at the International Finance Corporation, in order to build the capacity of government officials from Ministries of Finance, Planning, Trade, and Gender, and men and women entrepreneurs to perform gender analysis on key topics in economics, with a particular focus on women and private sector development (PSD). The workshop drew on the products of the World Bank's Gender and Economics Initiative and the findings of the Uganda and Kenya Gender and Growth Assessments (GGA). The workshop included presentations on the relevance of gender for economics, reviewed the links between gender and economic growth in Africa, and tackled gender issues in private sector development, trade, and in access to finance and markets. It also provided an overview of how to conduct and implement a GGA, and on the second day of the workshop, the Kenya Gender and Economic Growth Assessment and the Voices of Women Entrepreneurs in Kenya publications were officially launched to an audience of over 100 entrepreneurs. On average, over 60 participants participated in the three-day workshop, from 5 East African countries: Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya.
