"Gender Equality as Smart Economics" - A Briefing on the Action Plan for Women's Economic Empowerment

The Action Plan seeks to advance women's economic empowerment in developing countries as a way to promote shared growth and accelerate the implementation of the third Millennium Development Goal ("Promote gender equality and empower women"). The Action Plan builds on a consultative process launched by the World Bank, donors and UN partners at a high-level meeting in February 2006. Partners included the Governments of Norway and the United Kingdom, the OECD-DAC Network on Gender Equality, and UN agencies.
