| Katherine Terrell Svejnar  (1950-2009) |  | Katherine Terrell Svejnar, professor of business economics and public policy at the University of Michigan, was a valued member of the University of Michigan community since 1996. Professor Terrell Svejnar started her professional career as a Research Assistance at the World Bank in 1972 and continued to work for the Bank as a consultant throughout her life. She had a rich academic career and most recently she taught at Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. Professor Terrell Svejnar was an expert on the impact of government policies and the effect of globalization on wages, employment, income inequality and firm performance in emerging market economies. Her research and teaching focused on countries in Latin American, where she grew up, and Central and Eastern Europe. Â
In 2007-2008 Kathy spent nine months at the World Bank, in the Gender and Development Unit, during her sabbatical from the University of Michigan. All her Bank colleagues fondly remember her great intellect, enthusiasm and warm personality. She is deeply missed. |  |
