Integrating Gender Aspects into Disaster Risk Management Programs

Dec. 8th, 2011

Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery Unit (GFDRR) is looking to launch new initiatives that bring gender considerations into the analytical work and lending operations of the Bank. Already working to integrate the impact of disasters on gender issues during post-disaster needs assessments, GFDRR is looking to further expand its work into integrating Gender Issues into risk assessments, risk mitigation, early warning systems and risk transfer interventions.

This two-hour initial consultation was done, in collaboration with East Asia Disaster Risk Management Unit and Social Development Group, in a discussion of ongoing Gender initiatives at the World Bank, what disasters mean for gender issues, and how GFDRR can inform its ongoing and future Gender-related projects.
