About GenderStats

GenderStats is a one stop source of information on gender at the country and regional level. It presents a compilation of data on key gender topics from various sources including International Labour Organization (ILO), UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nation Population Division (UNPD), United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), household surveys such as Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) by Macro International and Multiple Cluster Indicators Survey (MICS) by UNICEF, and Inter-Agency Group for estimation of Child Mortality and Maternal Mortality.

Genderstats was produced by the World Bank's Poverty Reduction and Economic management Network’s Gender and Development team (PRMGE) and the Development Economics Data Group (DECDG). The database is updated three times a year, April, September and December.

Gender at a glance  provides key gender indicators by country for 2000, 2004 and the most recent year available. It also presents aggregations for the country’s region and income level.

Thematic data provides tables by theme such as demographics, education, health, and labor force and wages for 2000, 2004 and the most recent year available. It also presents aggregations for the country’s region and income level.

Regional data provides tables by region for 20 indicators for 2000, 2004 and the most recent year available. You can find specific data by selecting an indicator.

Genderstats data query allows users to create their own data query for gender statistics and produce a table in Excel.

Gender Monitoring  presents data for the Country Policy and Institutional Assessment (CPIA) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), which monitor progress in achieving gender equality at country level.
