Gender Monitoring

The World Bank has several ways of monitoring progress in achieving gender equality at country level. Two widely used tools are:

  • Country Policy and Institutional Assessment (CPIA)- an annual assessment that measures the extent to which a country' policy and institutional framework supports sustainable growth and poverty reduction, and consequently the effective use of development assistance. [More]

  • Millennium Development Goals (MDG)- The Millennium Development Goals commit the international community to an expanded vision of development, one that vigorously promotes human development as the key to sustaining social and economic progress in all countries, and recognizes the importance of creating a global partnership for development. The goals have been commonly accepted as a framework for measuring development progress. [ More]
