This intensive three-day leadership learning event targets leaders within the health sector in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya and is based upon the recently published 2nd Edition of Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries (DCP2) - http://www.dcp2.org/pubs/DCP.

In addition to providing background on the cost-effectiveness methodology used in setting priorities within DCP2, the workshop will focus on reviewing recent trends, studies and methodologies, with the objective of equipping policy makers and those who influence policy makers with the tools and knowledge necessary to prioritize health interventions in an effective manner. Participants will obtain information on how to devise better strategies, policies, and choices among health interventions; how to put those decisions into practice; and how to allocate scarce resources to implement them.

Parallel sessions will offer an opportunity to select from sessions focusing on reproductive health, nutrition, malaria, HIV/AIDS, information for decision making, district and referral hospitals and improving quality of care. Combining insights from DCP2 and knowledge of the local situation, key actors – from health ministers and parliamentarians to hospital administrators, government officials and health system leaders – should be better able to set priorities, select appropriate interventions, devise better means of delivery, improve management, and be more effective in mobilizing resources.

The list of about 20 participants from each country includes Ministers, Director Generals, Permanent Secretaries, MPs, heads of training institutions, Bank staff working in the three countries, WHO and a few Development Partners.
