Purpose of these pages is to provide a short list of issues around pharmaceuticals (as they typically come up in the Bank’s work with clients), useful links and references for further study.

Pharmaceuticals are a major input in health systems, they account for a significant share of health care costs and, if applied properly, they have a major positive impact on health outcomes. Adequate management of pharmaceuticals is therefore an essential element of every successful healthcare system.

Target audience of these pages are health officials in World Bank client countries and staff working for development agencies or NGOs with a focus on healthcare.
