Quantitative data on the health workforce is notoriously unreliable in most countries, including many rich ones. In poor countries, government and professional information systems are weak, when they exist at all, and are rarely comprehensive (often there is no information on the private sector) and up-to-date. Accordingly, caution must be exercised in using health workforce data. It is recommended to check the validity of sources and the reliability of the process of collection of information.
