Mental health is one of the cross-cutting issues introduced in the World Bank in recent years. That mental health is mutually dependent on physical health is an established fact, but it is important to consider the implications mental health have on a lot of other areas in development: employment, poverty alleviation efforts, social protection, community-based development, education and the list could go on. This web-page is under development, but we hope to provide some initial answer to your questions on the role of the World Bank in mental health and development. A new publication by Save the Children Federation, Inc: " Children in Crisis: Good Practices in Evaluating Psychosocial Programming" (PDF) provides background information on impacts of conflicts on the individual and on communities, psychosocial development, including children's reactions to violence, what is psychosocial programming, principles of project logic models, clear descriptions of inputs, outputs and their indicators, identifying data sources and methods of data collection and how to design a psychosocial project.
