The World Bank’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Sourcebook (PRSP), which seeks to summarize currently available information about approaches to poverty reduction in a wide range of development fields, contains a chapter on Health, Nutrition, and Population (HNP). The objective of this chapter, like others in the Sourcebook, is to provide background information for government officials preparing poverty reduction strategies for their countries.
One of the Sourcebook’s immediate uses will be in assisting country officials preparing poverty reduction strategy papers as a basis of external assistance available through the Bank’s Comprehensive Development Framework; and for debt relief under the Bank-IMF Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) Initiative. However, it is designed to serve more broadly as a useful resource for anyone concerned with the development of poverty reduction strategies.
