World Bank Atlas

For many people in today's world, the challenge of fighting global poverty can seem remote, something distant and hard to grasp in the midst of their busy daily lives.  Even practitioners in the field of development may lose sight of the bigger picture as they battle poverty day in and day out.

The World Bank publishes the World Bank Atlas which provides an overview of development efforts and highlights countries' key social and economic achievements. What you can see from the Atlas is that much has been achieved, but much remains to be done.  The maps and the charts in these files bring to life the sharp disparities that still exist in the first decade of the 21st centruy.  They show the gaps in income between countries and the inequalities between the rich and poor within countries.  The Atlas provides a useful introduction to the many dimensions of the challenge to fighting global poverty.

The world's growing population
