Tracking the Millennium Development Goals

The Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) are a challenge the global community has set for itself. They are a challenge to poor countires to demonstrate good governance and a commitment to reducing poverty. They are also a challenge to wealthy countries to keep their promise to support economic and social development. Monitoring of the 8 MDGs is based on 48 indicators formulated to measure 18 targets.

Target 18 of Goal 8 calls upon the Declaration's adherents to: "In cooperation with the private sector make available the benfits of new technologies, specifically information and communications".

The following indicators are being used to monitor Target 8: 47-Telephone lines and cellular subscribers per 100 people, 48a-Personal computers in use per 100 people, and 48b-Internet users per 100 people.
