Stakeholder consultation workshops were held in Kenya (January 22, 2007) and Burundi (February 9, 2007). The objectives of these workshops were to: - discuss the relationship between the proposed project and the broader development framework and priorities of RCIP countries;
- ensure that the proposed project’s objectives, due diligence process, potential impacts and benefits are transparent and well understood; and
- provide an opportunity for the RCIP project team and government representatives to obtain direct feedback and suggestions on specific initiatives within the framework of the Program.
The stakeholder consultation workshops were opened to members of the public, including but not limited to civil society organizations, NGO's, private sector, academia, parliamentarians, media, government and local council representatives. To ensure that the discussions were transparent, balanced, and meaningful, an independent moderator led each stakeholder consultation workshops and prepared a summary of the discussions which were made publicly available after the workshop.
