Corruption is a wide topic with many areas. Different technologies can play a role in different areas of anti-corruption activity.

For example in countries where internet access is possible and growing the World Wide Web has been used by civil society groups to raise awareness of corruption. The link below contains many examples of civil society groups who focus of exposing corruption.

There is risk present in the application of all technologies. The declaration of the 12th International Anti-Corruption Conference in November, 2006 highlighted the need for transparency and the potential danger of the trend for countries to control and limit the information on the internet. It should be noted that there was very little mention of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications for anti-corruption.
