e-Development Thematic Group/GICT & Cisco Systems
Friday, 22 February 2008; 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
As the World Bank attempts to increase the quality of its ICT portfolio and to remain on the cutting edge of policy and regulatory advise, it is useful for its staff to join with other stakeholders in development from the private sector. The objective of such dialogues is to share best practices, understand trends and new technologies and selectively create joint approaches to funding and implementing ICT solutions within the WBG institutional context. In that spirit, the World Bank's Global ICT Department joined with Cisco's public sector team on February 22 to discuss joint approaches faced on common themes in ICT4D in a half-day knowledge sharing workshop. Together with thought leaders from across the Bank and representatives of development partners at the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), US Trade and Development Agency (TDA), the Cisco team dug into the details of their respective experiences in the areas of connected government, cities, health, education and public safety/transportation. About 50 participants attended the plenaries and breakout sessions.
