Program Description
Antonio Carlos Rego Gil is the President of Brazil's BRASSCOM (the Brazilian association of software and IT services companies) and has represented the Brazilian IT and IT enabled services (ITES) industry with great distinction. Under his leadership BRASSCOM became one of the most active and effective industry organizations in Brazil. BRASSCOM has not only played an important advocacy role for the IT/ITES industry with policy makers in government, but it is actively working to disseminate Brazil’s capabilities in the IT sector and its global competitiveness. BRASSCOM faces many challenges to increase international awareness of Brazil’s IT/ITES industry and to improve the business environment for IT companies to flourish, but offers many lessons of experience for countries aspiring to develop their IT/ITES industry. Mr. Gil will share his perspectives on the role of industry associations in helping developing countries go about promoting their ICT industry. Given his hands-on experience in leading an industry that has seen such dramatic growth, Mr. Gil is uniquely positioned to offer insights of value to clients and the World Bank staff.
