The Information and Communications for Development Report is a regular publication of the World Bank Group addressing the critical role that information and communication technology (ICT) plays in economic development. It features at-a-glance tables for 150 economies of the latest available data on ICT sector performance.  The 2009 issue introduces performance measures for access, affordability and applications in government and business.

Information and Communications for Development 2009: Extending Reach and Increasing Impact (http://www.worldbank.org/ic4d)) takes an in-depth look at how ICT impacts economic growth in developing countries. The report finds that for every 10 percentage-point increase in high speed Internet connections there is an increase in economic growth of 1.3 percentage points. It also identifies the mobile platform as the single most powerful way to deliver public and private services to millions of people in remote and rural areas.

The report also contains new empirical evidence from a number of countries demonstrating that modern, broadband-enabled governments can effectively divest legacy issues and become more efficient, transparent and responsive. A survey of over 30 countries shows that successful e-government requires organizational and behavioral changes that must be managed with high-level political commitment, coordination and continuity.

This videoconferenced workshop will be aimed at presenting the report to several countries in Europe and Central Asia.  The target audience in each country includes representatives of relevant government agencies, expert community, private sector.

This seminar will feature a presentation of the report by its key authors, followed by brief comments by the government clients as well as Q&A and open discussion with the participants.
