E-GOVERNMENT PRACTICE @ THE WORLD BANK’S INFORMATION SOLUTIONS GROUP

eGov logoHarnessing ICT for Public Sector Modernization and Private Sector Competitiveness: At an accelerated pace, World Bank Group client countries are adopting the transforming principles of electronic government as a conceptual and technical framework for governance and public management (GPM) reforms. This stems from a recognition that (a) fundamental technology changes have occurred with decisive impact on all forms of institutional work; and (b) the new technologies are not only entirely compatible with, but can magnify the gains from GPM reform efforts.

In response to these client priorities, the e-Government Practice at the Information Solutions Group (ISG) emerged to support the application of e-government across the Bank’s operational portfolio through Technical Assistance, lending and the sharing of best practice knowledge. Recent engagements of the e-Government Practice group include the E-Sri Lanka Development Project, e-Rwanda Project and the e-Bharat Project in support of the National E-Governance Action Plan of India.

We also partner with the e-Development Thematic Group and other relevant groups to deliver a series of seminars, videoconferences and training workshops on e-government/ICT.

CURRENT ENGAGEMENTS

In FY05, e-Government Practice staff provided support to about 75 projects and activities, including integrated ICT/e-government projects, such as e-Sri Lanka and e-Bharat. Our staff supervised ICT/e-government components in projects being implemented in some 25 countries, across a variety of sectors including public sector reform, social development, energy, rural development, health, transportation, environment and water and sanitation. We have also organized over 20 video-seminars which included participants from over 30 client countries.
