In many justice systems, the Attorney General is a high-ranking lawyer, frequently of cabinet rank, and a member of the Executive Branch of Government. The Attorney General's first role is to uphold the rule of law through activities that include law reform, legal education or the appointment and supervision of law-enforcement personnel. The Attorney General is also the principal legal advisor and counsel of the Executive Branch, and to represents it before the court of law. The Attorney General's Office may also be responsible for a variety of tasks, including serving as the trustee of public registries.
