Description: The Employment Outlook: Tackling the Jobs Crisis (2009) -- The OECD annually publishes the Employment Outlook, which covers the state of the labor and employment markets in the OECD countries. The latest edition, published in September 2009, focused on the jobs crisis and examines government policies to mitigate the potentially long-term impact of the crisis on unemployment and the welfare of workers. This presentation focuses on the first chapter, "The Jobs Crisis: What are the Implications for Employment and Social Policy?"
The fiscal stimulus packages recommended by the OECD have a large component devoted to the area of social and labor market policies geared towards boosting employment. They focus not just on the more traditional social safety nets (unemployment benefits) and active labor market policies (to help job-seekers find work) but also promote policies directed at the most vulnerable groups, with particular mention of people with health-related problems to ease their ability to find employment.
