IOM's World Migration Report 2008: Managing Labor Mobility in the Evolving Global Economy

Date: March 19, 2009

Presenters: Michele Klein-Solomon (IOM)

Description: Michele Klein Solomon, director of the Migration Policy and Research Department at the IOM, will be presenting some of the most interesting findings on global labor migration from IOM's flaghip World Migration Report 2008.

The report, entitled "Managing Labour Mobility in the Evolving Global Economy" argues that demands for increased efficiency in production as a response to fierce global competition has meant that workers, independent of their geographical location, are increasingly living in an interconnected world of work, resulting in greater labor mobility. It identifies the salient features of modern-day migration in the era of globalization, and discusses in detail what they mean for policymaking.
