The design phase for the Moving Out of Poverty study featured a series of international research methodology workshops with experts from the fields of economics, political science, anthropology and sociology. These were followed by regional workshops in Thailand, Senegal, India, Mexico and Indonesia to train country teams in the study methodology, data analysis and report preparation. In January 2006 team leaders from sixteen MOP study countries and senior international experts met in St. Petersburg, Russia to discuss initial country findings, hypothesis development, and analysis of the qualitative and quantitative datasets.
