Poverty Monitoring Systems in the Context of Poverty Reduction Strategies

This two-hour session discussed recent experiences with poverty monitoring in countries that prepared PRSPs and had gone some way in monitoring progress. Two of the questions that were discussed were:

• What has happened in practice?
• Have the plans laid out in PRSPs and Poverty Monitoring Plans been implemented?

The session reviewed what indicators have been used in practice; targets set and achieved; tools used; and the institutions involved through the review of 2-3 countries studies. It mainly focused on PRSP countries but drew implications for middle-income countries.

This session was part of a one-day course on Poverty Monitoring Systems in the Context of Poverty Reduction Strategies and Assessing Statistical Capacity and Improving Data for Development. Course information, links to presentations and background materials are available.
