  • African Economic Research Consortium (AERC): The African Economic Research Consortium, established in 1988 is a public not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of economic policy research and training. AERC's mission is to strengthen local capacity for conducting independent, rigorous inquiry into the problems facing the management of economies in sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Brookings Institution, Research on Inquality and Poverty: The Brookings Institution is an independent, nonpartisan organization devoted to research, analysis, and public education with an emphasis on economics, foreign policy, governance, and metropolitan policy.This web site provides links to Brookings scholars, data, papers, and references to studies of inequality and poverty.

  • Center for Global Development: The Center for Global Development is dedicated to reducing global poverty and inequality through policy-oriented research and active engagement on development issues with the policy community and the public. A principal focus of the Center's work is the policies of the United States and other industrial countries that affect development prospects in poor countries.

  • Network on Economic Inequality and Social Interactions
    The network focuses efforts on three areas: (1) identifying and measuring the effects of social interactions on inequality, (2) developing models of social interactions and government policies that affect inequality and income distribution, and (3) studying inequality using computational simulations.

  • Network on the Effects of Inequality on Economic Performance
    This network focuses its research on the relationship between inequality and the economic success of nations, firms, and local communities. The network examines questions of (a) the relation between inequalities of assets or economic rewards and economic performance, and (b) if inequalities impede economic performance, how might these inequalities and failures be rectified without introducing new sources of inefficiency.

  • Asian Development Bank, Poverty Reduction: ADB is a multilateral development finance institution dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific. The site is a portal for poverty reduction policies, strategies, and activities.

  • The Department for International Development (DFID), Pro-Poor Growth: The Department for International Development (DFID) is the part of the UK Government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty. The site provides news, publications, and case studies to aid in tackling poverty and hunger.

  • POVNET: The OECD Development Assistance Committee's Network on Poverty Reduction: POVNET is a site that mobilizes forces to meet the Millennium Development Goals of the OECD by providing a forum for the exchange of experience and best practice on pro-poor growth. The site addresses strategies and policies in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, trade and investment capacity building, information and communication technology, the role of the private sector and public-private partnerships.

  • Inter-American Development Bank, Poverty and Inequality: This web site links to the Poverty and Inequality Unit within the Sustainable Development Department of the Inter-American Development Bank. The site provides the mission of the Poverty and Inequality Unit as well as links to research, data, publications, and various other resources.

  • United Nations Development Program: Pro-Poor Growth Policies: Part of the UNDP, the International Poverty Centre (IPC) aims to enhance country capacities in designing and implementing effective policy frameworks that support pro-poor growth by encouraging the generation and dissemination of knowledge on the impacts of different policy interventions on poverty and inequality. It also works to share country experiences where national capacities (institutional, research, political, etc.) have been developed to analyze the linkages and policy options for ensuring a scenario of sustained growth with increased equity and declining poverty. 

  • The United Nations University/World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU/WIDER): UNU/WIDER aims to undertake research and analysis on poverty, provide a forum for professional interaction and policy advocacy, and promote capacity building for scholars and government officials.

  • Poverty Research: Looking Beyond Averages: The link provides access to the site on the live research program on poverty and inequality. The program aims to: (1) improve current data and methods of poverty and inequality analysis, including greater standardization of household survey data, and making the data more accessible to users, and (2) use the improved data and existing data sources to better understand what makes “pro-poor growth.” The site describes ongoing and planned activities, as well as providing documentation on completed work, and links to closely related activities at the World Bank.
  • PovertyNet Library: The PovertyNet Library is an on-line, web accessible library of reports and documents devoted to poverty in the developing world. The Library contains a variety of poverty-related documents including technical reports and papers, abstracts, speeches, interviews and press releases. Users can search by topic, region, country, or keywords.
