April 22, 2008 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Description: There is widespread agreement that economic growth is a necessary condition for poverty reduction. However, there is ample evidence that the pattern of growth – how growth is generated and how it is distributed – is also critical for accelerating poverty reduction. This seminar highlights recent country studies that have successfully integrated the analysis of growth and poverty reduction. It covers a broad range of topics in shared growth analysis, including: macro and micro characteristics of recent growth patterns; diagnostic tools for identifying the country-specific binding constraints to shared growth and policy priorities; and in-depth analysis of sectors or markets where the constraints are binding.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the seminar, participants will have a better understanding of the relationship between growth, inequality, and poverty reduction. They will be familiar with recent country-level analytical work including growth, and incorporating analytical and policy perspectives. Speakers: Dino Merotto (Senior Economist, AFTP2) Elena Ianchovichina (Senior Economist, PRMED) Malcolm Ehrenpreis (Gender Specialist, PRMGE) Michael Morris (Lead Agriculture Economist, AFTAR) Susanna Lundström (Senior Economist, PRMPR)
Target Audience: Regional staff and TTLs, especially those preparing growth and poverty related studies (Country Economic Memorandums, Poverty Assessments, Development Policy Reviews, etc.) Task Manager: Ken Simler (Senior Economist, PRMPR) Background Papers: Presentations: Back to Training and Events |
