Since 2003, member countries of the Sub-Saharan Africa Transport Policy Program have been using a participatory, stakeholder-led process to review and improve the links between their national transport sector strategies and poverty reduction strategies. Over 24 countries are currently involved in the Poverty Reduction-Transport Strategy Review process (PRTSR). The emerging findings highlight significant weaknesses in how transport is addressed in PRSP and how poverty reduction is addressed in transport strategies, and identify important recommendations for improving the formulation of sector strategies coherent with PRSP. The participatory methodology being used builds cross-sector dialogue and establishes understanding and consensus amongst leading stakeholders on the improvements to be made. Guidelines, progress reports and some final country reports can be found on the Transport Strategies page of the SSATP website http://www.worldbank.org/afr/ssatp.
