Much of the English-language literature on public administration tends to reflect an Anglo-Saxon administrative tradition. That is, of course, not the only administrative tradition. Even if we set aside Eastern traditions, such as the Chinese or Japanese traditions, Western administrative traditions vary in important ways.  Accordingly, it can be helpful to be aware of important ways in which broad groups of Western administrative traditions differ from each other (see Four Main Administrative Traditions ).Furthermore, as many client countries of the World Bank share a common heritage from the French Administrative Tradition, it is useful to have a more extensive treatment of that French Administrative Tradition available for easy reference.
