About Us

Who we are?

The Customs Policy and Administration Thematic Group is established under the Trade Logistics Group of the World Bank.

Customs and cross-border affairs is a topic which has been subject to limited research so far.  While at times Customs issues can be misunderstood, Customs institutions play an essential role, at the crossroads of public administration, revenue generation, international trade, protection of society, and security.

We therefore aim at providing a convenient access to the most recent resources in this field.  We offer operational support to, and share knowledge with, Bank staff engaged in activities related to cross-border movements of people, vehicles, and goods.  We also provide the opportunity for Bank and external members to share views and experiences in these areas.

Our main areas of focus:

Customs systems and procedures

Trade facilitation and simplification

Customs and governance issues

Border management

Risk assessment and tools

Performance measurement

Customs information technology and equipment
