Welcome to the Home of Customs and Border Management Practice Group site.
June 2010: The Customs Policy and Administration Thematic Group has now been re-formed as the Customs and Border Management Practice Group within the International Trade Department (PRMTR).
The Bank has been an active player in customs reform and modernization for many years having invested in over 120 Customs projects or projects with significant Customs components over the past 20 years. The current portfolio includes approximately $420 million in Customs operations with in excess of $100 million in projects currently under development. While the Bank's Customs reform work traditionally focused on improving revenue collection, in recent years the emphasis has shifted to trade facilitation, improving national competitiveness and fostering regional integration. Research conducted by the Bank and others consistently identifies poor Customs and border processing performance as a significant barrier to export competitiveness.
In order to ensure the Bank’s limited technical experience and knowledge resources are shared effectively with all interested staff, the International Trade Department (PRMTR) is establishing a new Customs and Border Management Practice Group.
Initially the Group will focus on the cataloging of available knowledge products and resources and the sharing of activities of interest.
