The World Bank carries out projects and provides a wide variety of analytical and advisory services to help meet the needs for sustainable development of individual countries and the international community.
Within the structures of the World Bank, the Sustainable Development Network is responsible for:
- Producing Sector Strategy Papers which outline the Bank’s involvement in various sectors and thematic areas within the sustainable development agenda;
- Evaluating the Bank’s operational experience and comparative advantage in the area of sustainable development vis-à -vis other development partners;
- Defining the strategic priorities for the Network and the World Bank as a whole in each sector that supports the sustainable development agenda; and
- Presenting plans for implementing the strategy for sustainable development through regional and country assistance strategies and work programs developed jointly with and for our developing country clients.
Staff working in the Sustainable Development Network support clients as well as colleagues across the Bank’s operational regions in implementing sustainable development strategies, programs, and projects.
The Sustainable Development Network supports the sustainable development efforts of our clients in developing countries in many ways:
- By investing Bank Group's financial resources, experience, and world class knowledge in infrastructure, agriculture, and natural resource management;
- By promoting inclusive and accountable institutions;
- By ensuring the optimal management and impact of investments; and
- By engaging in issues of a global nature, such as climate change, global food crisis, etc.
