The workshop and training was designed and organized in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Forests, Government of Jharkhand, India, as part of the preparation for a proposed project on participatory forest management.
The workshop took place between February 3-9, 2004, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, and was designed to provide an introduction to the framework, concepts and tools of Social Assessment. The event included around 85-90 local participants from various levels of the Forest Department, non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, academics, and consulting agencies.
