The ‘Conference on New Frontiers of Social Policy: Development in a Globalizing World’ will be held in  Arusha, Tanzania.    Arusha, the capital of the Arusha Region, is located in the north of Tanzania. The weather in Arusha is generally cool, but in recent years the dry season is characterized by hot, dusty and windy days. During the month of December, the temperature ranges between 50-80 °F (10-26.7 °C), with an average of 8.2 rainy days.

Conference Venue

 

The conference will be held at the  Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge   which is 27 km from Arusha town and 25 km from Kilimanjaro International Airport .The Lodge  is located on a 140 acre coffee plantation, with views of Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru.   It has three conference rooms as well as a Business Centerwithinternet service and secretarial facilities.

Accommodation

 

The  conference hotel,  Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge has 132 residential rooms on premises. Inquiries regarding rooms should be sent to socialpolicy@worldbank.org. Since space is limited, additional participants can be accommodated at the  Impala Hotel, located in Arusha town, operated by the same management. Transportation will be available from the Impala Hotel  to the conference hotel every morning, with a return shuttle after the conference every evening. Participants who wish to do so may also make their own arrangements.

Travel Information

 

Participants may fly into  Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania. Taxis are available at the airport for travel to area hotels.

 

Due to limited flight schedules and availability, participants may also plan to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya.   Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is approximately 3-4 hours from the Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge overland. Please note that participants arriving at this location will also need a separate visa for Kenya.

Health & Immunization

 

Yellow fever: Required of all travelers over one year of age (for travel to  Tanzania)

Cholera:      No longer required for entry into  Tanzania.   However, cholera is a risk throughout the country and precautions are essential

Hepatitis A: Recommended for all travelers

Typhoid: Recommended for all travelers

Polio: One-time booster recommended for any adult traveler who completed the childhood series but never had polio vaccine as an adult

Hepatitis B: For travelers who may have intimate contact with local residents, especially if visiting for more than 6 months

Visa Information

 

Tanzania

 

Visas for Tanzania are required by all nationals except the following (who are issued with a visitor's pass on arrival): Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, Brunei, Cyprus, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malaysia, Malawi, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Namibia, Nauru, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, São Tomé e Príncipe, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Swaziland, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

 

Nationals who do not require visas for stays of up to three months may still need entry permit clearance, except nationals of  Kenya and Uganda. Visas may be obtained in advance by nationals coming from a country where there is a Tanzania Embassy, High Commission or Consulate to issue a visa or be obtained on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, provided all immigration and health requirement are met.  In order to expedite the application process, it is advised that the visa application form can be printed out and completed prior to arriving at.  The fee is approximately USD 50.00. It is highly recommended that visitors bring with them 2 passport sized pictures, should immigration officials require them to issue the visa."

 

A passport valid for at least six months is required by all.     Visa applications can be made at a  Tanzanian Consulate or Consular section at High Commission or Embassy.

Two recent passport-size photos.

Valid passport.

Fee, payable in cash or by postal order, made payable to the Tanzania High Commission (nationals must pay by postal order only for postal applications)

Pre-paid self-addressed, stamped envelope for postal applications

For business visitors, a letter indicating the nature of the trip and the business contact in.

Kenya

   

Nationals of the following countries do not need visas to travel to Kenya: Bahamas, Barbados, Botswana, Brunei-Darussalam, Cyprus, Dominica, Ethiopia, Fiji Islands, Gambia, The, Ghana, Grenada, Jamaica, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius, Namibia, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, San Marino, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, St Lucia, St Vincent & The Grenadines, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Turkey, Tuvalu, Uganda, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.      Citizens of all other countries must obtain a visa in advance.

 

Applications from nationals of the following countries have to be referred to  Nairobi for approval:   Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Senegal, Somalia, Tazikstan, Yemen, Stateless Persons.

Valid passport with sufficient number of unused pages for endorsements abroad. Passport must be signed and valid for at least six months.

Visa application form duly completed and signed by the applicant.

Two recent passport size photographs attached to the application form.

Valid round trip ticket or a letter from your travel agent certifying that the applicant holds prepaid arrangements.

A self-addressed stamped envelope for Priority Mail, Express Mail, FedEx, UPS, Airborne Express, or DHL (where available.)
