Building and Sharing Knowledge. The Social Development Department, in collaboration with the Development Economics Research Group (DECRG) and other partners, contributes to the development and diffusion of research on the root causes of conflict and the relations between conflict, development and poverty. This is done at different levels, including the aggregation of good practices from the field; participating to networks of organizations working for conflict prevention and reconstruction as well as providing training for its staff and external partners.

The Social Development Department regularly issues Dissemination Notes, which are short notes on best practices and experiences from the field of conflict and development, mostly in relation to World Bank programs. These Working Papers are more extensive and in-depth studies and analyses on issues pertinent to conflict and development, both theory and practice. The Dissemination Notes and Working Papers are widely disseminated inside and outside the World Bank, and are free of charge. In addition to regular Dissemination Notes and Working Papers from the Social Development Department, the World Bank conducts, compiles, and disseminates research and analysis on a number of topics related to conflict, poverty, and development. For publications organized by topics, please visit the Topics section of this website.
