The TIPS Sourcebook was developed to enhance the application of social analysis in the context of Poverty and Social Impact Analysis (PSIA).
PSIA is an approach to analyze distributional impacts of poverty reforms on the welfare of different stakeholder groups, with a particular focus on poor and vulnerable groups in society. In this section we summarize key information from the main PSIA website (www.worldbank.org/psia) for easier access and use.
In the first sub-section we present general information on PSIA and Guidance Notes. The second sub-section makes three publications available, which present PSIA case studies and lessons learned.
General Information and Guidance Notes
The information presented in this section provides background information on the PSIA approach and includes institutional guidance on how PSIA is applied in the World Bank and in DFID.
The User’s Guide to Poverty and Social Impact Analysis outlines the conceptual framework, introduces ten elements of good practice and presents an overview of economic and social tools and techniques that can be utilized for PSIA. The User’s Guide is available in English, French,  Russian and Spanish.
The Operational Policy on Development Policy Lending (OP 8.60) provides the institutional frame when and how to use PSIA in the preparation of budget support operations. The accompanying Good Practice Note explains in detail how and when to apply a PSIA as an analytical underpinning to a Development Policy Lending Operation.
DFID, as another organisation applying the approach,  outlines best practices in a Principles for Good Practice Note.
The German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Department for International Development (DfID) jointly outlines Principles for Conducting Good Practice PSIA Process.
