The CDD and Social Capital Team is developing strategies that help operational staff design projects that enhance social capital. As part of this work, we took stock of projects both within the Bank's portfolio and of external development agencies that address social capital.
The desk reviews cover 62 World Bank projects and 79 external agency projects and other documents. While neither desk review should be considered exhaustive, both provide important insights into the status of operational work that relates to social capital.
The operational lessons learned and best practices derived from the analysis of these projects will contribute toward a social capital operational toolkit. This toolkit will outline specific project design elements that will be of use in projects that seek to affect social capital. When combined with social capital measurement tools, project managers will be able to track the actual effect the project has on social capital, both during the project cycle and within the context of evaluations.
