The idea of a global partnership focusing on disability and economic development arose in informal discussions at the celebration of United Nations International Day of Disabled Persons at the World Bank in December 2002. For the next two years the brainstorm discussions continued at a series of meetings in Helsinki, Durban, Rome, and Washington, DC until the establishment of Coordinating Task Force that consists of representative members from stakeholders. In September 2005 the Task Force held a Business Plan meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and met for the first time after having nearly a year long monthly audio conferences. 2005 Sep. 18-20: Business Plan Meeting for the GPDD Task Force in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Meeting Report: MS Word (113Kb)
