GPDD Work Program

The overall Objective of the GPDD is to combat the social and economic exclusion and impoverishment of people with disabilities and their families in developing countries. To achieve its Objective, the GPDD works to increase awareness and understanding, and to strengthen cooperation among developing country governments, bilateral and multilateral donors, development banks, UN agencies, development NGOs, disabled persons’ organizations and NGOs working in the field of disability, foundations, enterprises, and other partners, internationally and nationally.

The GPDD promotes collaboration between the many organizations engaged in social and economic development through joint activities and projects in three priority areas: knowledge-sharing, capacity building and research.

The detailed work plan is in progress and will be shared eventually.

Knowledge-sharing A dotted line

The purpose of the GPDD knowledge-sharing work items is to increase the awareness of the public, and of development practitioners, of disability and development issues, as well as the GPDD Objective, and methods and efforts to promote and achieve inclusive development. Knowledge sharing is a fundamental GPDD activity as the GPDD sees itself as an information hub and a convener of knowledge and connections between organizations.

Capacity-Building A dotted line

The purpose of the GPDD capacity-building work items is to strengthen the capacity of organizations of people with disabilities (DPOs) and other disability NGOs to promote, guide and facilitate the inclusion of disability issues and the participation of people with disabilities in international, national and community-level development programs, and to strengthen the capacity of government departments and agencies in developing countries to effectively address disability issues.

Research A dotted line

The purpose of the GPDD research work items is to strengthen understanding about the two-way causality between poverty and disability, and identify practical methods to overcome discrimination and barriers to equalization of opportunity and the full participation of women and men with disabilities in economic and social development in developing countries.
