Objectives

• encourage the poor to send their children to school and to have their children receive regular care through covering their out of pocket expenses

Conditionalities

• education: 80% school attendance for school age children
• health: regular attendance to health clinics for children 0-6 years old; regular attendance to health clinics and giving birth at hospitals for pregnant and lactating mothers

Transfer size

• education: primary US$13 for boys, US$16 for girls; secondary US$20 for boys, US$28 for girls
• health: US$12 per month per child, US$12 per month during pregnancy, US$39 for birth at health center

Frequency of transfer

• bi-monthly

Target population

• poor families with children and pregnant women

Target mechanism

• proxy means test

• 698,000 households (2 million beneficiaries, 2.8% of population)

• US$270 million (0.8% of GDP)
